Try these 5 quick easy recipes that get dinner on the
table in 30 minutes or less!
Almost everyone is short on time these days. When it
comes to mealtime, you don't have hours to be spending getting dinner on the table. In the old days, when most
women didn't work, they had plenty of time to be making that fine, home cooked meal. You don't! However, that
doesn't mean that home cooked meals are out of the question. Whether you're a student who is not much on cooking,
or a busy working Mom, here are five quick easy recipes you can prepare on the fly, ready in 30 minutes or less.
These time savers are also inexpensive and nutritious.
1. My friend taught me this quick easy recipe.
This was often served in the military when cooking wasn't always handy. He can't cook anything else, but this
one is easy enough for even him to do and he shared it with me. I've made a few modifications that make it even
tastier and so it will make four servings. First, fry 1 ½ pounds of ground beef and crumble it up
with a spatula while you cook. When the meat is almost cooked, toss in one medium diced onion. If you like
mushrooms, slice up 3 or 4 of them and toss them in. When the beef is cooked, remove to a bowl and set
aside. In a 2-cup measuring cup, nuke 2 cups of water and 2 beef bouillion cubes together. Meanwhile, in the same
frying pan, over low heat, melt 3 tablespoons of butter. Add 3 tablespoons of flour, one at a time, whisking
constantly until it forms a paste. Keep whisking and slowly add the beef broth. Put the ground beef mixture back in
the frying pan. If you prefer a thinner consistency, just add more hot water. Serve over noodles or
bread. Done!
2. This quick and easy recipe can be ready in 15
minutes! The shrimp omelet is a winner in our house. For each serving, you'll need: one ounce of cooked salad
shrimp, two eggs, a half-inch slice of cream cheese, one slice of Swiss cheese, sliced green onions and a
sprinkling of dill weed, to taste. If the shrimp is frozen, put it in a bowl of hot water to thaw. Break the cream
cheese and Swiss into chunks. Beat the eggs well. Pour the eggs into a buttered pan, over low to medium heat.
Distribute the remaining ingredients over the eggs. After 2-3 minutes, fold the omelet in half with a spatula. When
the edges are firm, turn the omelet and cook for another couple of minutes. Serve with
bread.
3. Spaghetti is an American favorite. This quick, easy
recipe relies on a large jar of bottled spaghetti sauce with meat, with a few quick and easy additions that make it
more like home made. Get your pasta going. Slice 4-5 mushrooms, dice a large sweet onion and snip a few sprigs of
Italian parsley. Pour the jar in a pot and add the mushrooms and onion. Simmer for 15 minutes and serve, using the
parsley and a bit of shredded Parmesan as a garnish. Don't forget the French
bread!
4. This quick easy recipe is elegant and can be on your
fork in ten minutes! In a measuring cup, prepare a packaged Hollandaise sauce in the microwave. When it's done, put
a salmon in and nuke for 2 minutes on each side, for a one inch thick fillet. Pour on the sauce and
enjoy!
5. Slow cookers are fabulous appliances, the
mother of quick, easy recipes. In the morning, coarsely chop a large onion, 2 large potatoes and several
carrots. Pour a cup of water in the slow cooker and set on the medium setting. Place a chuck roast on top of
the veggies. Sprinkle the roast with 2 teaspoons of thyme. Cover. Dinner's ready when you walk in the door! If you
feel ambitious, make a gravy from the juices.
Most of these quick easy recipes provide leftovers
too. This will make your dinner prep even easier for future meals in a
hurry!
